“Some guys call, some date, and some guys, they might even get married.

But, sweetheart, I ain’t any of those guys...” ~ Zeke Declan

Every girl in Galveston County knows about Zeke Declan’s rules and has agreed to them or is considering them.

Rule #1 Don’t call him. He’ll call you.
Rule #2 He doesn’t date.
Rule #3 No sleepovers.
Rule #4 Absolutely, no virgins.

When a couple friends talk me into going back to their hometown in the Bayou for the summer and challenge me to break “the best damn lay in Galveston County” along with every single one of his ridiculous rules, I’m confident that I can get the job done. I’m no stranger to men. I have five older brothers. I’m a teacher and I’m used to being around rebellious teenagers. However, Zeke Declan is definitely not someone that I could have prepared for. He’s not a testosterone-fueled, immature boy. He’s a confident, arousing, playful, and mind-melting man. But, behind that sexy charming smile, I know he’s hiding a secret. And, in order to break him, I’m going to need to find out what it is...

I have been waiting to watch Zeke fall... And in this series, where the girls set out to break the Declan boys, I feel that Zeke was definitely the one to be broken. Everything he is, everything he stands for, everything he does is at stake to be broken by the virgin friend of Raven, Lurlene -- and from the beginning of the series, I have been so excited to watch this particular story play out.

When just a young boy, Zeke was home when the boys' parents were killed, and he's been a bit closed off since. His brothers have always had his back but he's never spoken of that day. And quite frankly, his brothers don't question it. But that day, that single day, changed and shaped Zeke to the man he is today.

What I loved (almost) the most about this particular book was how it lined up with the others. All three books are told during the same time, but for whatever reason, perhaps because it's been so long since I've read SLATE and JAX, I loved the overlap. I loved seeing all of the scenes again, but this time in Lurlene and Zeke's points of view. I loved the reminders of the other brothers' stories, and I really loved the retelling of Slate's sad tale, but through baby brother Zeke's eyes.

Zeke was such a hoot. Never had a woman make him want to do a double take, find a way to talk to her, as Lurlene did when he first met her. And because of that, watching his battle with her (and let's be honest, with Rayna), was certainly comical at times. This man's rules, all four but most definitely on in particular, are there for a very good reason, so I wanted nothing more than to watch this man fall and allow love in -- and it's not an easy journey.

I did find a couple of the scenes to skim the surface on the emotion front, and while I really loved the pretty bow that was put on the last scene in particular, I was still wanting a little bit more -- emotion, dialogue, touch... Something. But still, this was a great conclusion to these Declan boys' stories. And while I want a little bit more on the Zeke and Lurlene front, perhaps I'll still get a taste of them because the next set of brothers to be featured on Kelly Gendron's pages are Lurlene's overprotective brothers -- I can't wait!
