Our little family has been together for four years, and life has been good, considering my track record. But In the blink of an eye, my ease was suddenly gone when I heard his terrifying words. I knew from the look on Tango’s face and the way he avoided my gaze—all hell was about to break loose. Now it seems like the dangers I spent years desperately avoiding are starting to threaten my happily ever after.

Maybe it’s because I let my guard down. Or maybe it’s because I was starting to trust again. But I can’t even trust the people closest to me, and now I remember why. Screw with me, that’s one thing. Screw with my family, and we’ve got a problem…

In this newest addition to the story of Cali and Tango, we get to watch their fears come to fruition -- Cali's nervousness to trust and Tango's fear of the people who were after them, mixed in with their peanut of a daughter's safety...

If you haven't read TAG, Tango gives you a decent little backstory in the beginning of this novella. Some may say that Tango's 'fight' scene at the beginning is a bit lackluster, but I think it's important to remember/realize that the first scene is Tango having a conversation with you, the reader. He's recalling the fight from earlier, he's telling you about what happened recently as well as what happened four years ago.

One of the things that bothered me in TAG was Cali's seemingly immaturity; it has taken a bit of a different turn now that she's a mom and married -- Cali, as Tango so accurately points out, is a fierce mama bear. She goes above and beyond to protect those she cares about and yeah, she has a temper -- but Tango does too. These two have some pretty grand disagreements, but at the end of the day, Tango knows how to calm Cali's demons, and she does his as well.

I absolutely have enjoyed every little extra bit of Cali and Tango that Shari has given the TAG fans. I love these two characters to pieces and find them to be a great yin and yang -- they complete one another perfectly, and their cherub daughter with Tango's true name has sass and spunk, and is every bit her parents' daughter.

Oh! We also meet one of Tango's Marine buddies and I loved Jag! I loved his mouth -- Shari definitely did the Marine Corps mouth justice with that one. I love his slip ups when he first meets Tango's family, and I loved his supportive hand on Cali's shoulder. I loved his arms around Cali's friend, too... I kinda think maybe Shari should spin something there ;)

My only disappointment would be that I felt that the big bang moment of this novella fell a little short. It wrapped up a little too nicely, too easily, but because I'm such a Tango/Cali/Tyler fan... that 4-star still got that extra half.
