This was a fun read -- I had my issues with it, but altogether, it was fun and sweet.
In FALLING FOR HIS BEST FRIEND, you have Asian American Avery; her mother passed away from a genetic disease involving the reproductive system when she was around thirty. At twenty-eight, the same age their mother learned of her cancer, Avery's sister learned that she, too, had the same disease process but was in the early stages; at the news, her sister had a hysterectomy.
When learning this, Avery was tested and learned she had markers for the same; knowing she wanted a family and having been single, she makes the decision to start her family with in vetro, using an anonymous donor.
I loved that Avery was strong enough to make this decision, knowing that in a year or so it would be likely she would need her own hysterectomy in order to stay healthy. Besides her sister, her support system includes her best friend, Drew; her best girl friend; and Drew's brother. She sits them down and tells them the news...
Drew has been Avery's rock for years, ever since she hauled and punched him in elementary school for making fun of her sister's angled eyes. Drew has a hard time wrapping his mind around the fact that Avery is having a baby -- as her best friend, he knows that he'll be the one holding her hair, helping her at night, being her rock.
I grew frustrated with Drew with his thoughts that Avery couldn't do it alone -- and that when he offers to be the donor, he just figured sex; he didn't think about the whole donor thing. I wanted to smack the boy upside the head, to be honest.
Avery and Drew have a very solid friendship, and I appreciated it. This wasn't quite the same as a typical friends-to-lovers story, but it was equally cute!
