Four people. Four goals. Four endings.

In the third and final book of the USA Today bestselling By His Game series, the rules of the game no one knew they’d have to play are blurring, and when the past becomes the opposing team, hearts aren’t the only thing at stake of being lost…

Finding naked pictures of her best friend on her boyfriend’s phone wasn’t in Everleigh White’s five year plan. Neither was moving back to Los Angeles, the city of dreams that never managed to make hers come true. There’s only so many years you can be in love with your best friend before you realize he’s never going to love you back, after all. If only her ex would stop showing up at the gym where she works, she’d be much happier.

Being a father at nineteen wasn’t how Reid North, the Vipers’ wide receiver, imagined his life going, but when his ex-girlfriend tricked him into parenthood, he accepted it. Eventually. Now, with his ex on the verge of being released from prison, he’s holding onto full custody of his seven year old son, Leo. Football and Leo have left Reid no time for dating… Until Everleigh comes back.

His best friend his whole life, Everleigh never knew Reid loved her. She left before he could tell her. Now she’s back in front of him, and he’s not letting go. Even if all he gets is her friendship again. But in a city like L.A., dreams come true when you’re least expecting it.

So do nightmares.

With their exes beating down their doors with demands and explanations, their hesitant and building relationship is threatened at every corner. They’re at serious risk of being intercepted by the past, and that’s a ball Reid is determined to catch.

Except desperation can lead to stupidity—and Reid soon realizes he can’t catch every ball, no matter how perfectly it’s thrown to him. This time a fumble could cost more than a few points.
It could cost him everything.

INTERCEPTED is the third and final book in the By His Game series and can be read as a standalone,

although it is advised to read BLINDSIDED and SIDELINED before, in this order.

about Emma || By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies - usually wine - and writes books.

Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her followers and fans at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.

She likes to be busy - unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.

{ excerpt } .

I pull some underwear out, complete with sweats and a loose T-shirt. I dress, much to Reid’s chagrin, and stand up. “I’m making coffee. Please get your fine ass out of bed right now.”

He flips over, shoving the quilt aside and showing me that fine ass. I grab the end of the bed and lean over, slapping my palm against the peachiness of his ass cheek.

“Ever!” he growls.

I laugh, hightailing it out of bedroom. I pause halfway down the stairs to yell, “Your fault! Show me an ass like that and I’m gonna slap it!”

“Run, baby. I’m coming for you.”

Again, I laugh, flying down the rest of the stairs and into the kitchen. I haven’t even cleaned the coffee machine out before his footsteps thunder down the stairs and he appears in the kitchen. I shriek, grabbing the back of a chair in the middle of the room. Reid advances, his steps predatory, his gaze intense, and his smirk hot.

“You don’t wanna do this,” I warn, trying to contain my giggles. “I can run fast.”

“You know I run and mow down big-ass guys for a living, right? I’m also damn good at catching things.”

“But I’m neither a big-ass guy nor a thing,” I counter. “I’m a sexy little package that comes with thongs and garters.”

He stops for a second, and I use his surprise at my words to make a break for it. I run into the front room, but he’s hot on my heels, and I scream “No!” as his arms circle around my waist and we slam onto the sofa. My stomach hurts from laughing so hard, and Reid’s own deep rumble of laughter sends shivers across my skin.

“You’re an idiot,” I breathe, pushing at his shoulders.

“Twenty years and she’s still surprised,” he laughs, kissing the side of my head in a way that is so familiar yet means so much more now than it used to.

“Always surprised.” My reply is on a dying giggle, and I turn my head to the side. The window faces the driveway, and as my gaze flits across it and the open drapes, I pause.

“Fuck knows why,” Reid says, still laughing.

Only, my laughter has died. “Get up,” I whisper, my stomach coiling with sickness.

“What?”

“Up!” I shove at him and extract myself from his hold. I run to the front door, my breath hitching when I open it.

On my dashboard is a white rose. Like so many before it.

Only it isn’t.

This one is draped in red.

Sometimes I feel that I give out 5-star ratings like candy, and then something comes along and you're all, now that is a 5-star read.

In the midst of all the books I've feasted my eyes on this week, INTERCEPTED deserves every point of every star in that 5-star rating.

Every moment of this book just clicked. Beginning, loved. The emotion, loved. The bantering and bickering -- yep, I loved it. You could just sense that these two had been best friends -- it was in their dialogue, their mannerisms, their playfulness, their emotions, the rawness. My goodness gracious, I loved Ever and Reid (well, and Leo, too; damn that kid is great).

Ever has loved Reid for as long as she can remember. What she didn't know was that Reid has loved Ever as long as he can remember. She's always been his constant, his anchor. The problem, though? She's four years younger, and when he was eighteen to her fourteen... well, that's a problem.

But he was waiting for her. He promised not to leave town, going to play ball for the football team near their home. At nineteen, he became a father on accident, and the one thing he regrets more than anything was telling Claire to get rid of the baby...

...because Leo is his world.

Leo's first years, although Leo doesn't remember her, involved Everleigh. Always his anchor, helping him through the times he had his son. Reid had plans to move their relationship along, but Ever skipped town without telling a soul, something that Reid has a hard time forgiving her for.

But when she comes back four years later? Well, Reid essentially puts his foot down.

He's domineering, and isn't afraid to talk dirty to her or put his mouth on hers to get her to stop talking -- and these things shock the living hell out of Ever. In fact, that first major kiss, after an impromptu lunch after (accidentally) humiliating her at her workplace... Major heart clench.

So many feels in this book. Heart swelling, tears, fear... So many feels.

One of the things I most appreciated about their story was that you could sense the familiarity these two had. He talked to her like she was his best friend, and she the same. She didn't pull her punches, but neither did he. They had colorful words for one another, but everything always felt natural.
"...And if you think for one second that the love I had for you four years ago ever went anywhere, then you’re a total fuckin’ idiot." --Reid
He fought it, but eventually his love for her wins out. Unlike typical romance stories, their big "boom" moment isn't a fight that tears them apart. They've already been torn apart.

It's their pasts coming back and causing threatening problems. Watching Reid break down in both of these instances, especially a certain 5-or-so chapters towards the end... My goodness, the love that guy has for his Everleigh, you can only hope to be so lucky to be on the receiving end of it.

However... This book is more than feels and swearing and finding one another. There are moments of comedy. Beyond the way Ever and Reid talk to each other:
* You grope me in the middle of the night?”
“I prefer to use the term ‘support'."
* "...Uh, Reid? This may surprise you, but I can walk.”
“I know,” he replies, still carrying me to the front door. “But this is more fun.”
“Does it make you feel all alpha manly and shit?”
“To carry your hundred-and-twenty-pound body? I press more than that on a daily basis, baby.” He sets me down on the sofa, and I drop my eyes to the impressive definition in his bicep.
                      “Mhmm.”
“Everleigh White, put your fucking sex eyes away..."
*"...Just a little bit.”--Everleigh
“How the hell do you have ‘just a little bit’ of sex?"--Reid
...there's Leo. My goodness, that boy is his son's father through and through -- has a smart mouth, that one:
*"Are adult cooties different than kid cooties? Do you have to do something different to catch them? Because you have a little red lipstick on your chin."
*"Did you give Dad cooties last night? Did it hurt him? It sounded painful.”
              “Oooookay!”--Reid
....and there's the advice that Jack and Corey give Reid. My goodness, those men. And the epilogue. We all know I love epilogues and this one? Loved it. Loved it so damn much that I'm freaking depressed that this is the last of this series. I want to see more, dammit..! ;)

...I suppose I could read books 1 and 2 (because my goodness, I really enjoyed Jack and Corey, too, and the mention of them in the epilogue? Oh yes, I want to see their beginnings), and then re-read INTERCEPTED. And maybe read INTERCEPTED again... And maybe one more time after that for good measure.

...and before INTERCEPTED:

Blindsided by Emma Hart

Publisher: Self-Published (1/12/2015)
Series: By His Game, book 1
Genre: Sport Romance, New Adult

From Emma Hart, the New York Times bestselling author of the Game series, comes a brand new series where the game is realer, the tension is tighter, the sex is hotter, and the stakes are the highest of all…

Two people. Two agendas. Two games.

What happens when the out-there It-Boy of football meets the secret It-Girl of fashion?

As the daughter of Hollywood’s sweetheart, Leah Veronica can’t even buy a coffee without finding her face on a magazine stand, so it’s no wonder she’s launching her first fashion line in secret. With it debuting at New York Fashion Week in just under a month, extra time in the spotlight is the last thing she needs.

The son of the best quarterback the league has ever seen, filling legendary shoes as the L.A. Vipers’ quarterback was inevitable for Corey Jackson. So was meeting Leah Veronica—the first girl to hand him his ass without putting a hair out of place.

Getting the handsome, prickly blonde into his bed becomes his number one goal. But getting the sexy, over-confident footballer the hell away from her becomes Leah’s—at least until she realizes the best way to do that is to give him what he wants.

If only it was that simple.

When Corey discovers who she is, and private photos of Hollywood’s finest find their way online, everything they thought they knew is thrown into disarray.

And when secrets are exposed and hearts are shattered, they have to figure out if they’ve been blindsided by love or reality, and if it’s worth running the extra yard to win the game they never meant to play.

Sidelinded by Emma Hart

Publisher: Self-Published (3/2/2015)
Series: By His Game, book 2
Genre: Sport Romance, New Adult

Three people. Three motives. Three reasons.
When the game leaves the field in the second book in the USA Today bestselling BY HIS GAME series and mixes with sex, lies, and betrayal, the future isn't the only thing on the line...

Macey Kelly has sworn off men. Unless they’re going to zip in and out of her apartment—and her vagina—quicker than they can give her an orgasm, she’s not interested. Finding out her boyfriend of three years got her cousin pregnant was a total confidence knock. Luckily for Macey, confidence is
something she has in abundance, so all Mitch’s asshole move did was make her pretty cynical toward men.

The last thing Jack Carr needs at the start of the season is for a dark-haired, sexy as sin, gyspyesque beauty to be consuming his thoughts. Football is his life, which leaves no time for girls. Unless they’re the love ‘em and leave ‘em girls. Becoming one of the best running backs the league has ever seen by racking up the yards is his top priority… not bedding Macey Kelly, despite her affinity for blow jobs and total sexual abandon.

Avoiding each other is the perfect solution, but when your best friends are in a serious living together kind of relationship, that isn’t always an option. Sometimes, sex on tap is the easiest option. And the sweetest.

Until Mitch shows up with a bombshell that could shatter Macey’s perfectly carved out life. It’s been a year, but he isn’t giving her up, not now he has a chance at winning her back. And he knows her buttons. Every single one of them.

Unfortunately for him, Jack Carr isn’t a loser. The star running back has his eye on the Vince Lombardi—and on Macey. But seeing her hanging between them both isn’t something he’s down with, not when he discovers why she’s so against anything more-ish, as she puts it.Macey quickly realizes she’s the ball being passed between two desperate yet opposing teams, and that only one of them can score the touchdown. But will the winner be the guy she lived with and loved for three years, or will the winner be the guy who understands her and makes her body come alive?

In this game, someone will be sidelined, and calling the play isn’t always as easy as it seems.
